Heat pumps are a form of renewable technology that converts energy from the air or ground into heat. It delivers super-efficient low-cost energy saving heating and hot water all year round.
A Heat Pump installed and setup correctly is very efficient and can produce energy up to a 1 to 4 ratio. That means that for every 1kW of electricity a Heat pump consumes you get a return of 4 kW of heat energy to use in the home.
That makes for a running cost similar if not cheaper than a mains gas boiler. That makes a heat pump a great alternative to other heating solutions, especially when you are off the mains gas grid. They also benefit from having excellent green credentials in an ever-increasing fight against climate change.

What Are Hybrid Heat Pumps
For many in the industry, the hybrid heat pump looks like the next big thing. A Hybrid heat pump combines both an Air Source Heat Pump, with a conventional mains gas boiler. That makes them a great low carbon solution for heating most UK homes.
Why? Well, it’s simple. An air source heat pump is cheaper to run during the summer months, say from February to November. But a gas boiler is more economical to run during the winter months. So with a Hybrid Heat Pump, you get a cost-effective, low carbon heating system all year round.
The Hybrid heating system monitors the changing outdoor temperature. It then changes between the heat pump or gas boiler.
Usually set between 0 and 3 degrees the heat pump runs above the set point and the boiler below it.
That also means you get the best of both. You will also qualify for RHI (the renewable heat incentive) which looks set to get a boost at some point this year.
