System type: 10.8kw Solar PV (Domestic)
Case Study: Solar PV and Battery Storage Installation at a 5 Bed House in Wighill, July 2023
Client: Mr Reed
Location: Wighill
Installation Size: 10.8 kWp Solar PV System
Battery Storage: 19 kWh GivEnergy Battery Storage
Modules: 24 x Aiko 450W Solar Panels
Inverter: SolarEdge Home Wave Inverter
Date of Installation: July 2023
Project Overview
In July 2023, Energy Smart Group Ltd installed a 10.8 kWp solar PV system using 24 Aiko 450W solar panels and 19 kWh GivEnergy battery storage at a 5 bedroomed house in Wighill. The system was designed to reduce electricity costs, enhance grid independence, and support the farm’s sustainability goals.
Client’s Challenge
Mr Reed sought an energy solution that would:
- Reduce energy costs The farm’s high energy usage resulted in significant electricity bills, which Mr Reed wanted to reduce.
- Increase energy independence Mr Reed was insistent on decreasing reliance on external power sources, and wanted to store excess solar energy through use of a battery.
- Boost sustainability Mr Reed was committed to lowering the farm’s carbon emissions by transitioning to renewable energy.
Solution Provided by The Energy Smart Group Ltd
We delivered a tailored solution that integrated both solar power generation and energy storage, ensuring the client’s energy goals were met:
- 10.8 kWp Solar PV System: The system featured 24 Aiko 450W solar panels arranged in two groups of 12 panels, each mounted on the roof at an optimal angle to maximise solar generation. The total system size was 10.8 kWp.
- SolarEdge Inverter and Monitoring: The SolarEdge Home Wave Inverter ensured maximum system efficiency and allowed real-time monitoring of energy production and usage via a smartphone app.
- 19 kWh GivEnergy Battery Storage: The 19 kWh battery enabled Mr Reed to store excess energy generated during the day, which could be used during nighttime or cloudy days, further reducing reliance on the grid.
System Performance and Early Results
The system is estimated to generate 9,720 kWh annually, covering nearly all of the farm’s energy needs. The 19 kWh battery storage has increased the farm’s energy independence to 71%, allowing Stuart to utilise most of the energy generated on-site rather than relying on grid electricity.
Environmental and Financial Benefits
- CO2 savings: The system is expected to offset approximately 2.5 tons of CO2 annually, which is equivalent to 50,000 miles driven by a car or 500 trees planted.
- Energy savings: The system is projected to save around £2,200 annually in electricity costs, with lifetime savings estimated to exceed £75,000 over the system’s 25-year life.
- Payback period: The system is expected to pay for itself within 9-10 years, with net savings of approximately £45,000.
Client Feedback
“The installation has been fantastic. We’re seeing great savings on our energy bills, and the battery system has really boosted our energy independence. The Energy Smart Group Ltd delivered a professional service, and we’re thrilled with the results.”
